A Mid-Year Review...




Around this time every year, I like to have what I call a “mid-year review”. Nothing fancy, just a time to check in on my annual goals. The point is simple: take stock of what I have accomplished this year, review my goals and make necessary changes or pivots to my business plan for the remainder of the year. 

 

Now of course, my “mid-year review” doesn't just include my professional life. I have goals for my own personal growth, goals for checking of travel bucket list items (looking at you, Italy 😉), goals for surf, goals for furthering my yoga practice, and goals for renovation projects for my home or what I like to call the surf-den.

 

Like many of you goal-setters out there, my business goals are always quantifiable..so my mid-year review includes asking myself “am I on track to meet my financial goals for the year” and “how many deals have I closed each quarter”. As I was reflecting on these questions, I was also reminded of a few other questions that are not so easy to measure. I reminded myself that working in real estate is much more than “closing deals”. This is a people-oriented business and buying and selling real estate is truly life-changing (call me cheesy, but it is true)


When I represent a homebuyer, I recognize it is a life-changing purchase and an investment like that deserves more than just a “transactional” mindset. And for home sellers, I recognize that when they move on from a home this means moving on from a significant place in their life's journey and often times letting go of that that place is hard. Slice it anyway you want, these are some of life's big milestone moments! 

 

So, in reviewing mid-year goals I also challenged myself to think of more “qualitative” questions. Am I supporting my clients no matter what stage of the buying or selling process they are in? Am I providing enough educational resources (see links below!) for clients to stay informed about the market? How can I make sure my clients know that I understand this is not just a “transactional” industry? 

 

Maybe it is my yoga practice that is bringing up these more reflective questions. However, in an increasingly “transactional” and “automated” world, I felt it was important to reiterate that this is and will always be a “people-oriented” business. My goal is for my clients to feel that by working with me, they are working with a Realtor who understands their goals, their timeline, their unique situation…and then is dedicated to helping them achieve those goals. 

 

So, with that…cheers to you and thank you for allowing me to be your Realtor. As this year marks my sixth year as a Realtor, it is not lost on me how lucky I am for your support, your referrals, and even simply your “likes” or “comments” on social media.
